Transcription Mystery Disc #153

This is a Wilcox-Gay Recordio spins at 78 rpm and has an outer edge start. It is 8 inches in diameter and totally unlabeled. It's got a paper core and has terrible spider cracks across both sides. I ripped the less damaged of the two. The wear marks on the labels indicate it may have been stored improperly exacerbating the problem.

Jazz Duo: Piano and Clarinet

The recording is of a very skilled jazz duo playing piano and clarinet. The chord changes are similar to the Lovin' Spoonful tune "What A Day For A Daydream,"  though thsi clearly predates that. their style is somewhat reminiscent of Barney Bigard's work decades later. Phonozoic dates these blanks as "pre-1950" which is all we have to go on. My guess is that the metal core planks are pre-WWII and the paper core are peak war and later.

  1. They're playing "On the Sunny Side of the Street." Actually, variations on it.
