At 12:498 today 90.7 WAZU debut in Peoria, IL. ladies and gentlemen we have a new non-commercial radio station. It's a proud day and one I've been waiting for as I've watched dozens of satellite fed religious stations spring up like toadstools year after year.
Their first song: Smokin' Banana Peels by The Dead Milkmen then it cut out and went to dead air for abotu 20 seconds. then music resumed with Disappointed by Public Image Ltd. During that song they cut out again for about half a minute. That was followed by another gap of dead air and then The Beat(en) Generation by The The. You can listed to the first moments here:
It's pretty clearly on autopilot at the moment but the playlist is very promising indeed. Strangely about an hour later they played a program called "Trance on the Porch" hosted by DJ Mark. That program is carried on the Pacifica Radio Network. It's already carried on KZGM, WETX, WYAP, and WERU. I think that says a lot about what their line up is going to be like.
