Eulogizing Air America

The notice went up just a few hours ago. They have taken down their website and put up a press statement here.
"It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business."
It goes on from there. Air America has declared Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. Chapters 11, and 13 are for re-organizing. Chapter 7 is strictly for liquidation. they filed Chapter 11 in 2006, that didnt' get the job done apparently. So this means that it's all over. This would be a perfectly valid place to gripe about mismanagement, the screw job they got in New York, their ridiculous executive salaries, or about some mistakes they made in letting some talent get away. But I'll skip all that. I'm going to try to remember how good some of the programming had been.

The majority report proved that Janeane Garofalo regardless of her chops in stand-up was truly great in radio. She was quick, she was witty and in that format she came alive. She of course left the program in 2006. Her co-host Sam Seder left the program in 2007. Not that they were the only the talent just my favorite.
"Starting at 6 pm EST today, we will provide our affiliates, listeners and users a selection of encore programming until 9 pm EST on Monday, January 25, at which time Air America programming will end."
