It's almost the end of the year and we must take stock of things. It's all too easy in the wake of daily bullshit and international catastrophe to forget to take an accounting of what was good. It's much more important to remember the 10 best records than that 23 banks have gone under this year. Well sort of. It's easier to go back to earlier less difficult years and put together a little something.
Best Pastrami Ruben: Sully's Pub & Cafe in Peoria, Illinois. It turned out the only decent joint that served a ruben, served a damn fine one.
Best Music Blog:Boogie Woogie Flu. It is one that never ever dissapoints. Brought to you by Ted Barron since January of 2007.
Best Radio Show : The Garage Sale on WTJU. Brother Jimmy rocks new and old, from 1950s pop, to modern garage rock ranging from the Amboy Dukes to Eddie Current Suppression Ring. A phenomenon and a curio wrapped into one show.
Best Record Store: Record Connection in Ephrata Pennsylvania. This was a hands down win this year. They got 12", 45s, 7", and even the coveted 78s.
Best Local Paper: Leo in Louisville, KY. They've fully modernized their alternative weekly ran into a blog and multimedia site. And they've had the sense to retain decent writers.
Best Concert: Bang! Bang! Eche! at R-Bar durring the CMJ Music Conference. they're either going to be famous or drinking canned heat. ...Or famous for drinking canned heat.
