You all heard this story two weeks ago. But in the hubub you forgot that this was just another attention-seeking DJ interested in ratings. All claims to the contrary, about starting a discussion... what they really want is a discussion about themselves. You can't club a baby rabbit on live radio with a bicycle pump and expect that you will not be the focus of the story.
Jorgen Ramskov is the Executive Director at Radio 24SYV in Copenhagen. He was born in Horens Denmark, and graduated from the Danish School of Journalism in 1988. He was reporter and editor at Copenhagen Radio, a station in the DR (danish Broadcasting Network) He was also a reporter on TV 2 News, but returned to DR in 1995. he worked at the Danish Film Institute, and later became head of the Copenhagen Film Festival.
The host of the program in question was Asger Juhl. Juhl grew up on a farm, but had not previously killed rabbits. So he consulted an unnamed Aalborg zoo employee on proper technique. He was told that when you hit the rabbit at the neck it's usually only stunned and to complete the task you need to break it's neck. For some reason lacking a stick Juhl Ramskov opted for a bicycle pump. The pump wasn't terribly well-suited for the task and Juhl had to hit the rabbit three times. More here.
He named the rabbit Allan, and after the he bonked it on the head thrice with the pump, he twisted it's neck, skined and field dressed the 9-weeek old Lagomorpha. Ramskov claimed that 24SYV was highlighting the hypocrisy of animal rights campaigners who eat meat. Then took the animal home where he and his children cooked and ate it in a stew. He wasn't wrong. But the fore notice, videotaping and staging of the event reek of a PR effort. Previous to the killing, Juhl debated animal right with a Danish reality TV star Linse Kessler who attempted briefly to rescue the rabbit. That said, I do think rabbits are tasty animals.
