Facts about WFAX

I find myself on the road today at a cheap hotel, cheaply exploiting a homonym for a blog post. Let's proceed in the obvious format and try not to be too critical.

  1. 1220 WFAX-AM is licensed to Falls Church, Virginia
  2. Their URL is here
  3. It signed on September 15th, 1948
  4. At first the station broadcast from the attic of a gas station
  5.  It operates at 5,000 watts.
  6.  It was founded by founded by a husband and wife team, Lamar and Genevieve Newcom
  7.  The station is presently managed by their daughter, Doris Newcomb
  8.  It was the first religious  station in the Washington D.C. metro. 
  9. Their studios sit beside a BBQ joint and a hair salon.
  10. They began airing satellite programming at night in1981
  11. Several staff members are published authors including Carol J. Williams, and Dale Crowley
  12. Previously the WFAX calls resided in Binghamton, NY at 400 meters.
  13. They appear in the congressional record courtesy of Senators Sam Ervine [D],  Jesse  Helms [R] in 1973 and Senator Strom Thurmond [R] in 1974
  14. They were named in the infamous Red Lion Broadcasting Group case against the fairness doctrine
