Archie and THE HISTORY OF ELECTRONICS!

In the year 1990 Radioshack sponsored a promo-issue of Archie Comics that considered on THE HISTORY OF ELECTRONICS. They did earlier comics of the same tile in 1987 and 1988 but this was the first year with Archie. they were all distributed free.  Even now, a mere 20 years later it's already dated. Archie is still around, and still shills for pretty much anyone. Radio shack carries barely any electronics, no comic books and sells mostly cell phones. But history is still history and at Arcane Radio Trivia... that's what we like to hear about. I considered scanned the entire issue, but it's well inside the confines of copyright so I had to settle for some legally protected "reasonable use" samples. Scans are HERE courtesy of Atarimagazines.com.(Thank you anonymous commenter)

They cover Nikola Tesla, solar power, hydro-electric power, geothermal power, nuclear power, battery systems, Heinrich Hertz, Alessandro Volta, William Gilbert, Joseph Henry, Michael Faraday, James Clerk Maxwell, and of course Edison. Later bits cover computers, the then fledgling internet and satellite technology.  They do little mini segments on audio recording and radio broadcasting.  As a whole it's loaded with profoundly memorable kitsch. Enjoy.

Surprisingly in the middle of all this they snuck in the etymology of the company name "Radio Shack."

Hi! Just wanted to point out that you can view the pages for this comic here:

Also there's another thing about the files you uploaded from this blog. It would be great if you could re-upload the following files to a file sharing website that actually works like megaupload since the links from divshare don't work properly. You might also want to re-post the rest of the files not listed to megaupload as well since they didn't work the first time and it'll be more convienient for future visitors to your website. Anyway, just wanted to point that out and thanks for your efforts!

No matter what file sharing network I use somebody has a problem accessing them. I knwo they work because Divshare allows me to track downloads and since they are being downloaded... they definitely work for most people.

I have more recently considered moving to soundcloud but I do avoid the medarapidupshare-type sites because I have less ability to track and thus control distribution.
