This is actually recent news. Less than a month ago, on September 25, the 1420 WLIS -AM transmitter caught fire. thankfully the fire damage was limited to the transmitter-room, but the station was knocked off air for days. Their Harris SX5 transmitter was totally destroyed.
Ignition was attributed to a simple electric arc. WLIS-AM simulcasts on WMRD-AM 1150, which continued to carry their programming uninterrupted.
It's the exceptions that make us what we are, not the rules.
